About Us
Serving with faith, compassion and accountability
Al Karam Charitable Organisation exists to support vulnerable communities and strengthen the Islamic community through humanitarian, social, educational and development projects.
Our Mission
Why Al Karam exists
We work alongside vulnerable communities to deliver humanitarian relief, education, healthcare, clean water, livelihoods support and Islamic community development — always designed with the people we serve, not simply for them.
Every project is guided by Islamic principles of charity (Sadaqah), justice, and care for the vulnerable, delivered with the same standards of accountability expected by international donors, foundations and development partners.

Our Foundation
What guides everything we do
Five commitments shape how Al Karam designs, delivers and reports on every project.
Faith
Our work is grounded in Islamic principles of charity, justice and service to others.
Compassion
We treat every person we serve with warmth, empathy and respect for their circumstances.
Dignity
We design programmes that preserve the dignity of the communities we work alongside.
Accountability
We hold ourselves to clear standards of financial and programmatic transparency.
Impact
We prioritise measurable, lasting outcomes over short-term or symbolic assistance.
Our Story
How Al Karam began
Al Karam Charitable Organisation was founded in Kampala, Uganda by two Ugandan nationals, Sserunjogi Umar Abubakar and Ssemusu Pius. It grew out of a conviction that charitable work in their own communities should be carried out to the same standards of care and accountability expected anywhere in the world.
From that beginning, the organisation has focused on projects designed together with the communities they serve — in education, care for orphans and vulnerable children, food assistance, clean water, healthcare, livelihoods and Islamic community development.

Our Approach
Faith-informed, not fatwa-issuing
Al Karam applies general, widely-accepted understandings of Islamic charitable principles to guide our programming. We are not a religious authority: for specific rulings on Zakat, Sadaqah or Qurbani, we encourage donors to consult a qualified scholar.
